I'm doing some gardening in my house! And I'm thinking about soil and vegetation, just like during my PhD.
The soil in the area is bad, poor impermeable glacial till. But above it there's some better soil. Trees, however, don't seem to mind the poor underlaying. I don't know if it's because they have shallow root systems, or because they can get nutrients from the organic poor but mineral rich soil.
I'll keep thinking about this in the months to follow.
I'll also will be posting more photos of this, and of buildings of Seattle.
Peace,

These are my 35 mm film photographs taken with a Pentax SP F, and a few daily reflections or feelings I wish to publish.

Seeing
I find myself looking at peoples dress, hair, expressions, bodies. There's so much that meets the eye. Sometimes I'm a foreigner, sometimes I'm a local. In reality I'm both and none. I like it, except sometimes. And I like seeing people within this position.
I miss making photos. I have some new. Burning man was quite an experience that extends to before and after the event. Before was the anxiety and preparation and excitement. After the new connections, experiences, and feelings and ways of seeing. Memories of my childhood days and the realization that what sometimes seems impossible is possible.
I want to write and talk more. But I only want to say what's necessary. Nothing more.

Cherry trees!

I loved using the 35 mm camera. But it's becoming harder and harder to buy film, process it, and play with the process of making pictures. I borrowed a digital camera from a friend, and made these. I'll begin posting photos from digital cameras here as well. I'll still will flag them as digital. =)

The moon is beautiful tonight. Sometimes I forget to look at the moon. I love to do that. I feel a special connection to her.
You are the most beautiful woman on the face of the Earth. You make me feel incredibly alive. You make me so happy. And you make me want to kiss you and hug you and hold you, and be kissed and hugged and hold by you.
I feel so lucky when I hear my heart beat inside me. I want to share it with you. And feel yours.
I love you.
And I want to dance with you.

I'll retake photography this year 2012.
In the mean time, I've become interested in unraveling trends in data. I deal with data all the time in my work, and I really hadn't been all that interested in it. I was more interested in simply learning from what others had observed and understood.
I feel that the universe is full of cycles and networks that explain the way things are, at many different scales. Examples of cycles that dominate what we perceive, as humans, are day and night, the seasons, even the different stages of the moon. Examples of networks are the connections among people at different levels: friendship, romance, work, communication, and more. And the scales at which these cycles and connections go are very wide. We can think of networks of blood flow in our fingers, and fluxes of water in the Columbia River. We can think of cycles of our heart beat almost once per second, but the beat can go up and down throughout the day very likely linked in some way or another to the cycle of day and night.
Today I learned about this google tool that shows you the frequency of the use of any given word in books in the last 200 years. It shows that the relevance of women is going up, and that the relevance of Earth is going down, in the minds of the English speaking publishing people. I understand why women are becoming more relevant, since they share more power with men than in the past. I guess the relevance of Earth is becoming smaller since our daily life, surrounded by great technological achievements, distances each time more from our planet. For example, it's dark outside, and it could just as well be bright, I am just typing here in my computer. I think this is not good for preserving the natural landscapes in the way our great grand parents new them. Only a few acres protected by national parks will remain pristine in a few years. The terms Man, Water, Money and Energy remained within the same rank of relevance in the past 200 years.

The popularity of the term Man is declining, perhaps it's the term Social what is taking over?
