Daniel is working on the background. They are a German couple. He´s a doctor, she´s a nurse. He was doing research somewhere at Harvard. She was doing her own clothes line and selling them. I met them at a party. They were really cool.

I turned 34. Nothing happened. Some women think I'm in my late 20's. It's a compliment. Last night went out with the group of friends I bumped into Seattle thanks to Tremendisima. It's a pretty cool group. Very international. Perhaps that's what helps me to fit in. A bunch of foreigners hanging out in the USA, far away from what each of us calls home. The range of topics we discussed ranged from using a database to organize our preferences in girlfriends/boyfriends, the huge protests in Egypt (this guy from SaudiArabia was the best informed), how many pairs of jeans we owned, and stuff like that. We ate Polish food. It was really good. Can't complain. It was my first Friday at 24... I mean 34.

This was among the best photoshoot I've have had so far. There was great chemistry between the two of us that day. I was inspired and she was very expressive. My goal was to capture her big eyes. But then we ended up capturing more than that. I will post a series of 20 entries of this session. Some are in color, some are B&W.

I miss doing photography. But I haven't found willing inspiring models in Seattle yet. I'm looking. I see them in the streets every day. But I don't know them. Seattle is very young and kind of rebelious. At least the places I hang out at. I like it.

Camping, fall 2005
We can explore the same place, event, person, from many different angles and always find something new. With pictures we can't capture the whole thing but only the light the thing reflects in our direction. This camping trip was great. Carlos, Matt, Heather and me headed to do rafting with a group of friends of Carlos. These photos are just a collection from a chat between Laura, frenchy guy, and Heather. I don't know what they were saying but I loved doing the photos.

A new year begins. What will the future will be like, not this year, but 10, 20, 50 or 100 years from now? Will dogs have human rights? Will robots do all the house chores and care for babies? Will unicorns and mermaids appear in our labs? Will marriage change? Perhaps science fiction novels have the answer. What do others think?

The photos in this post are from Early 2007. I felt really lucky to be able to make these. Rebeca is now doing her PhD in Ecology, then she was doing her Masters.

In Viejo San Juan it is really difficult to do any work in January because a crazy festival takes place all day and night long. I spent two weeks there in a short workshop on water usage by plants. Despite the distracting festivities going on around me most of the time, I did manage to learn about the various mechanisms plants adopt at different scales to deal with its surroundings and reproduce and grow. I won't write about that here but trust me, it's fascinating. Something else I enjoyed from the workshop were discussions about the Earth's energy and water fluxes.

What I did in addition to that small but significant amount of learning was going out in those hot nights with a large group of graduate students from Cambridge and Viejo San Juan to the streets festival. We danced all night long. We swam at night, under a new moon, in waters where microorganisms glowed in the dark as they slid over our skin. There we even choreographed an aquatic ballet. It was great.

And Rebeca and I made a few photos, just playing around with the camera and light. It was great.
