the internet: ether or real?

I was thinking about how real it is. If you don't have facebook, you existence fades in the mind of your network of friends. Or if you do and you have a cool page, your score within your network goes up.

It's like a second layer of skin. Like your clothes, the way you talk, the way you are with those surrounding you. It is quite real.

And it belongs to the youngest of us. Simply look at the webpages of people over 30, and compare them to those of those under, and you can see how the older bracket can't keep up with the young.

I was thinking about how real the images that appear in this blog are. After all, images are light beams coming into our brains through our eyes. The image is sharper, more vivid in real life, before it hits the film or digital sensor, yet, the vividness of the image can be as real in a good computer screen than in a silver halides prints. So, then, the internet is real. As real as our thoughts.

When we pull the cord, and the internet is gone, so is all within it. It ceases to exist. And then it is ethereal. So are our thoughts when we die. Prints, instead, last a little longer, even when we pull the plug. And ideas, feelings? Do they survive when we share them with others? Like in a piece of theater, a dance choreography, a novel, even as the pitagoras theorem? I think they do. At least for a little longer, if we think of time at the scale of the age of the universe!

So, now, going back to images, here's Feli in the Spring of 2007 # 9.

These are just simple shots of a pretty back:
