Rebels

Zapatour 2000, Tepoz, Mexico

I was thinking about Libya. It reminds me of what happened in the early 16th century around Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire. Then, the Spaniards convinced neighboring indigenous city states to help them take down the Aztecs, who ruled the region. The Aztecs were defeated. And then the Spaniards took over the region. They mined gold and silver and shipped it to Europe. They justified their actions under the shield of spreading the gospel to native americans. Today I feel Europe is doing the same thing in Libya. They are using tribal divisions to take down the Libyan regime. They are using institutions like the UN and the ICJ to claim legitimacy to their actions. They have interests in the black gold of the region. Does this matter? I don't know. Probably not.
